Homemade Lamb Recipe for Zero 🐾💛

Hi friends, it’s Zero’s mom here!
Today I’m sharing a special homemade meal recipe I made for Zero.
(I actually made this last month, but I’m only just posting it now 😅)

I usually feed him a mix of kibble and fresh meat (either raw or lightly cooked), but from time to time, I like to prepare something extra special for him.
This time, I used lamb as the main ingredient to create a hearty homemade meal.

🥩 Ingredients

  • Lamb (stew-cut size, bite-sized pieces)
  • Carrot
  • Corn
  • Olive oil
  • Coconut oil

👉 Always try to use the freshest ingredients possible.

👩‍🍳 Cooking Process

1. Prep the ingredients

  • Wash the carrot thoroughly and pre-boil the corn.

2. Chop & Dice

  • Peel the carrot, trim the ends, and cut into chunks.
  • Remove corn kernels from the cob.
  • Place everything into a chopper and mince lightly.

3. Lightly stir-fry the Veggies

  • Heat a pan and add just one spoonful of olive oil (not too much!).
  • Lightly sauté the carrots and corn until they begin to soften.

4. Add the Lamb

  • Once the veggies are halfway cooked, add the lamb and stir-fry together until evenly cooked.

5. Coconut Oil Finish

  • Turn off the heat once the lamb is fully cooked.
  • Let it cool slightly, then stir in a spoonful of coconut oil for added flavor and nutrition.
  • I simply used the residual heat to mix it in without cooking further.

6. Portion & Store

  • Drain out excess fat using a slotted spoon.
  • Divide into meal-sized portions, label, and freeze for later.

🛠️ Handling the Fat

Since lamb tends to be fatty (plus the coconut oil), I made sure to remove as much grease as possible before storing. I used a slotted ladle to scoop out the food, leaving the oil behind.

Sometimes I’ll save a little bit of the oil to drizzle over kibble on lean-protein days, but most of it goes into the trash after solidifying overnight.
Here in Australia, food waste disposal isn’t as separated as in Korea. Most of it just goes into general waste.

🎥 Zero’s Taste Test

Of course, I had to let Zero try a little bite while cooking.
He absolutely loved it and couldn’t wait for dinnertime!

For dinner, I gave him:

  • 130g of homemade lamb meal
  • 130g of kibble

That’s about his usual one-meal portion (~260g). I normally adjust slightly depending on his appetite, but this time I balanced the fattier homemade portion with kibble.

Zero can be picky and doesn’t always finish plain kibble… (yes, I know I spoiled him).
But when I mix in homemade food like this, he eats everything happily, which makes me so proud.

🍽️ The Slow Feeder Bowl

Since French Bulldogs are brachycephalic (short-nosed breeds), they tend to gulp food too quickly, sometimes choking or even vomiting. To help Zero slow down, I use a slow feeder bowl, and it’s been a lifesaver.

👉 Check out the one I use here: Amazon Affiliate Link

It has an interactive maze pattern that encourages slower eating, prevents bloating, and keeps mealtime safer. Highly recommend this for fast eaters!

Watching Zero enjoy his homemade dinner so much makes me so happy. The slow feeder ensures he eats safely, and the recipe itself is simple enough that busy pet parents can easily make it at home.

If you’re like me and want to mix a bit of homemade goodness into your dog’s diet, this lamb recipe is a great option. Balanced, easy, and full of love. 💛

I’ll continue sharing more of our homemade recipes here on the blog. Stay tuned!
